Sir Francis Burdett at The Scottish National Gallery, Scotland

One of the most caricatured British politicians of his time, Burdett emerged as an icon of social and political radicalism and a leading advocate for the 1832 Reform Bill that extended voting rights to more citizens. The endorsement of Burdett, a highly respected national figure, was a major coup for Ternouth. A former assistant to renowned sculptor Sir Francis Chantrey, Ternouth was then building a reputation as an independent artist. When displayed at Rossie Priory, this bust served as a powerful symbol of the Kinnaird family's own liberal politics. This object is part of "Scan The World".
