Sir Edwin Chadwick (1801-90) was a pioneering reformer who made significant contributions to various aspects of Victorian life. He actively campaigned for better employment conditions, improved civil service recruitment, and most notably, dedicated his efforts to enhancing sanitation and eradicating disease. By Adam Salomon (1818-81), this striking marble bust c.1863 showcases Chadwick's likeness. The sculpture was a gift from his widow in 1890.
