Single piece, quick-change spool holder and filament guide for Prusa i3 mk2
thingiverse
This design is plagued by several issues - I've now got a brand-new filament holder that's similar but can hold two reels at once for quicker swapping (and still looks better even if you only need to hold one reel) - check out: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1847716 The least favourite part of my stock Prusa i3 mk2 is the filament holder, so I designed a new one. Should work just fine with any similar 6mm-frame printer. Print as a single piece and clip it to the frame. To change the filament, simply pick up the old spool and place the new one on. Supports all spools I know of. Up to 8cm wide (Prusa-sourced PLA) and with centre-holes down to 18mm (Taulman Nylon 618). Designed to be just as strong with one leg as the stock holder is with two. Slot in the leg for extra perimeters to resist bending. Not strictly speaking a remix of the mesh, but I was initially inspired by this design. Updated (6th October) - now has a ridge to stop the spool from falling off if the printer is uneven and a stiffer joint between the leg and the spindle. Update (11th October - made leg and cantilever beam stiffer/chunkier. Removed some hollow sections. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0,2mm Infill: 25%, 3d honeycomb Notes: Needs to be printed on the strong side because we are replacing two legs with one. I printed with 3 perimeters and 25% infill - this works perfectly, and could maybe get away with a bit less infill. How I Designed This Designed in Freecad. Freecad project file included.
