A ratchet-driven cutting tool features a blade connected to a pin joint with a rack-equipped cutting board that is advanced via a gear train as the blade is lifted. Upon pressing the rear knob, the bevel gear is released for board retraction; meanwhile, the spring at the knob keeps the gears in constant contact when not engaged.
