I frequently swap out pickups in my electric guitars, often switching between the bridge and middle pickup - the middle single coil being an afterthought for me. I don't want an empty space on my pickguard, so I came up with a design that resembles an EMG single coil pickup and fits perfectly into the opening of a standard pickguard. This design works well on my Ibanez RGs, but the single coil opening is typically the same size on other guitars as well, so it should fit in most cases. I use a drill/tap to adjust the screw holes to match the screws I have available. It only takes a split second to tap them to the right size - the hole is already there, smaller than a screw, allowing me to use any size tap I need. These custom pickups also work great in direct mount electric guitars.
