The original design, thing 11891, can be improved by incorporating a 20mm ID collar. This modification enables the use of low-friction M8 self-aligning thrust bearings from Igus (RS part number 712-5011). Unlike ball race type thrust bearings, these offer misalignment compensation. Additionally, aluminum single beam couplings are used, but they must be supported to prevent stretching under the x-carriage's weight.
