I designed a custom setup using a regular door sensor, modifying it to work on my garage door. I didn't want to simply attach the magnet sensor to the metal frame with glue, as this would likely cause the alarm to sound when the adhesive failed over time. Instead, I created a bracket that screws into place above the metal up-and-over door and attached the sensor to the wall beside it using a drill. To ensure the magnet remained securely in its new bracket, I applied a layer of superglue to prevent it from falling out. This modification should help others figure out how to install a sensor on their garage doors. I've actually implemented two sensors on my garage door system now. One is positioned on the outer up-and-over door and arms when I'm at home, while the other is attached to the inner entry door leading into the house and only activates when I'm away. This setup allows me to pull into the garage without worrying about the entry timer triggering when I return from being away. When the system is set to "home," my kids can now sneak out of the house without having to disarm the entire system, which often leads them to forget to reset it for the night – a classic teenage trait.
