People protect their ears from the face mask elastic that will otherwise pinch or rub against them. The original design's spare hooks were eliminated, and different sizes of this item are now printed to match head circumference. A centre rectangle was removed from the original design to allow hair to fit through the gap (which also holds it in place), for example a pony tail.
