Simplified Drive Mod for Sewing machine motor
thingiverse
Full Disclosure: Untested I created this mod to replace the drive components, allowing me to utilize a spare sewing machine motor I had on hand. Included is a 3-inch Pulley to reduce the top end speed for lace spinning conventions, as my motor operates at 20,000 RPM at full speed. Thrift shops and goodwills often have an abundance of old sewing machines, making this a relatively inexpensive source for prime movers. Reverse spinning for plying should be achievable with a twist in the belt (round belt) if there is no facility for that on the particular motor. Additionally, there is an accessory coupler that can be attached to drive other items such as a yarn swift, provided the machine back is vertically flush with its mounting board and positioned at the edge of a table. Additional Materials: * 8x 1mm x 4mm Neodymium Magnets (for Accessory Coupler & Pulley) * 2x 6903 Bearing * 1x Steel Rod, 10mm x 60mm (Aluminum would also work) with a flat ground reducing the height to 8mm * 3x M5 x 35 Screws * 3x M5 Locknuts (other nuts will suffice) * 6x M5 Washers (bottom washers can be larger if possible) 1x Motor - 1/4-inch Pulley and Belt to fit. (This is mounted under the board in this mod and can have its placement adjusted) You would want a motor speed control of some type for whatever you choose. https://www.tinkercad.com/things/0lgnAdFM2ow
