SimpleCrypt: Desktop Tube Cipher
thingiverse
This device encrypts short messages using a simple 5-stage manual encryption tube. It scrambles the message and requires two passcodes to decode properly. An optional custom cylinder is available for those who prefer not to use the default model. To encode, users enter two passwords, rearrange the numbered cylinders vertically, and turn the central protruding ring on each cylinder. They then trace from top to bottom or vice versa, matching characters on the edges of each cylinder to transmute each character. This design draws inspiration from the Enigma machine used during WWII, but it's purely mechanical rather than electro-mechanical. As a result, it's smaller and slower, but could potentially be shrunk to fit in one's pocket.
