I'll have to redo it completely for it to work right. Initially, my aim was to create a holder for filament spools so they wouldn't unwind during storage or switching. It didn't turn out as planned. To make matters worse, this file has an incorrect filename. When I looked at the preview, I realized that's not what I had designed – it's the Tri-Angler brace meant for holding filament spools in place during printing. The proportions are all wrong too. After attempting a similar design which worked to some extent, I discovered it failed on multiple levels. Since it was made of ABS plastic and lacked sufficient moisture, the print became excessively brittle and easily snapped when touched. To improve this project, the scale needs to be increased by at least 50-100%. Something else I found while experimenting with prints that partially succeeded was potential for developing a versatile open-source construction toy project based on the same principles used in this failed file, as well as the one I successfully printed – one that could accommodate an infinite number of modular pieces linked by simple connections. My next task after getting back to designing is going to be putting serious effort into building this open-toy construction system.
