Simple Shelf Bracket with Customisable Screw Holes
thingiverse
This is a modified version of TZT's customisable shelf bracket, stripped down to its most fundamental support (one diagonal bar). The original design was appealing overall, but the tiny, fixed-size screw holes were a problem, so I've created this variant with adjustable screw holes and recalculated spacing to maintain a logical layout while accommodating varying screw sizes within a reasonable range. Screw holes can be individually adjusted on each side to accommodate different diameters (for instance, a lightweight shelf could have a larger screw for a plasterboard anchor on one face and a smaller screw directly into wood on the other). The screw holes should match the outer diameter of the screws you plan to use (beyond the thread spiral). The head diameter should be as close as possible to maximize side-to-side support. Measure or refer to the packet specifications for these dimensions. A small tolerance is added to ensure the screw can pass through without resistance. Any guide hole (if required) in the wall/shelf should then be drilled to match the diameter of the inside of the screw thread. Screws must not have to be screwed into both the fitting and the wall/shelf behind - allowing it to pass freely through the fitting in front, then screw tightly into the object behind enables the screw to apply an active holding force. This is marked as "in progress" because I haven't installed my own shelves yet. I'll remove this tag when I have.
