Simple Prusa Mk3 filament spool holder sleeve and guide
thingiverse
One of the main issues with the Prusa i3 MK3 printer is that filament tends to rock forward and backward on the standard filament holder, which attaches directly to the printer frame. Many alternative filament holders have been created and made available on Thingiverse, and I've tried several, including those equipped with skate rollers. However, one problem I encountered with these spool holders is that they sometimes allow the spool to over-spin, causing the filament to become loose in the spool. I firmly believe a bit of friction is necessary to prevent over-spinning and keep the spool securely in place, which is why I wanted to reuse the original spool holder. I designed a very simple sleeve to fit over the spool holder, allowing the filament spool to spin more smoothly and reducing the forward and backward rocking. This mod is truly one of the easiest and simplest ways to significantly improve the stock spool holder on the Prusa MK3 printer. I've also included my own custom-designed filament guide, which works exceptionally well with the modified spool holder.
