This is a lightweight tool designed specifically for photokina 2016. I curated a selection of these tools and distributed them to fair visitors to introduce them to the world of lightpainting. It's engineered to be user-friendly and easy to build. To assemble the tool, you'll need: a pvc pipe with 14mm diameter, typically used for routing cables 5 x 5mm LEDs in your preferred colors some wires a switch a CR2032 battery cell paint a rubber band (optional) a resistor Insert the LEDs into the led chamber and connect them in parallel. Note that different color LEDs may require varying voltage levels, so be sure to add a resistor accordingly. Paint the pipe black to prevent light reflection. Use a rubber band to mark the middle of the pipe for easy identification in low-light conditions. Cut a hole about two hand-widths away from the center of the pipe to accommodate the switch. Route two wires along the length of the pipe, then solder them to the switch and secure it within the hole using tape. Assemble the head by connecting the ends of the wires to create contacts within the battery chamber. Once assembled, hold the pipe at its midpoint and attach a counterweight to the opposite end. However, don't insert the counterweight fully yet. The counterweight should be weighted evenly to balance the pipe. If necessary, add a small amount of sand to achieve equilibrium. Insert the plug into the counterweight and secure it to the pipe. Refer to the assembly pictures for guidance. To create an orb, position a camera on a tripod and initiate a long exposure. Place a glowstick on the ground in front of the camera and stand close by. Hold the pipe directly above the glowstick and begin rotating it around its midpoint. As you walk in small steps around the glowstick, ensure the pipe remains centered above it. Once you complete a full circle, switch off the LEDs and terminate your exposure. The resulting image should resemble a vibrant light-ball, as seen in the example pictures.
