Simple Metal Cable Chain Mounts
thingiverse
This is a modified combination of the Extruder Cable Chain Mount(http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:514728) and the Bottom Link of the Open Cable Chain(http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:40918). The presented mounts have been revised to fit seamlessly on the Simple Metal's base and extruder. Tweaking my y-axis stop required a few modifications, unfortunately reducing the print bed's volume by several millimeters, as homing the Y axis caused the printer to grind excessively due to attempting to compress the chain. Results may vary. Edit: A newer version of the extruder mount now accommodates the cable exit, for users who have encountered the same issue I faced with stripping out the screw holding the bearing in place and having to rotate the extruder motor for a new hole. Additionally, mounts for the Y axis harness were added, including a makeshift, no-frills approach for securing the motor side with zip ties or a thin tie. The lower mount incorporates a plate aligned with the base's screw hole, which requires a matching screw for attachment. Edit, February 28th, 2015: I've removed the 'work in progress' flag since I have successfully run with these modified versions for months now and encountered no issues. Instructions To utilize these mounts, print them at settings identical to those used for printing the chain. The extruder side fits by gentle press. Secure it into one of the Z rod tower holes on the base, which then straddles the cable opening. For the Y axis harness, attach the motor side mount using one or two zip ties based on the desired fit, securing it directly to the motor. It should remain in place and visible in photos (consult images).
