Simple Mask Tightener - Fast Print
thingiverse
Note: V2 is the upgraded design. This fast print string tightener for face masks is a simple solution that requires minimal time to produce. With a 0.6 mm nozzle, two perimeters, no supports, and 15% infill, one can print one in approximately seven minutes. The material cost comes out to about $0.03 each (1.49 g of PLA). Using a Prusa MK3S, it's possible to print 72 on one build plate in around five hours and thirty-six minutes. Further optimization could lead to faster printing times, but the design was crafted to be universally adaptable. For anyone viewing this in the future, this design was created specifically for use during the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. As supplies of PPE worldwide dwindled, doctors and nurses were forced to reuse single-use masks for extended periods. When the elastic bands stretched beyond their intended lifespan, the masks could no longer provide a secure seal around the wearer's face. This simple string tightener makes it easy to tighten those worn-out strings - just loop the string as needed and feed the ends through the slots afterwards. The tension should hold it in place on your head. I've left extra tolerances throughout to accommodate most 5 mm diameter strings; if you need modifications, please leave a comment and I'll do my best to assist. Please note that this design comes with no warranty or guarantee of health benefits - it's simply a simple string tightener. Be sure to sanitize it like any other plastic piece. You may modify or remix this design; please share your changes and attribute them accordingly. However, selling prints of this for profit is not permitted under the non-commercial license. If you're printing these for donations that are only two to three times the cost of materials, I won't have an issue with that. Let's work together to support our community during these challenging times instead of engaging in profiteering.
