Simple iPhone Lightning Cupholder Dock
thingiverse
My go-to modding project was building a reasonable iPhone Dock for my Chevy Spark. I wanted something sleek so I fired up SketchUp and grabbed some calipers to get precise measurements. To keep it firmly in place in the cupholder, I relied on Double stick foam tape. However, that required filing the opening for the lightning connector just the right amount for a seamless fit. To create this mod, start by drawing a circle with a 36mm radius in SketchUp. Then, extrude the edge up by 40mm and resize the top circle to have a radius of 38mm. Next, add a tilted slab for extra support, followed by an extruded cylinder with a radius of 5mm to create the cable-in hole. Now, intersect the model to remove the cylinder and create the hole. Do the same by making an oval cylinder that matches the tilted slab. Print this mod using bridge support, then remove the supports once complete. After printing, file the lightning hole until it perfectly fits your needs. To assemble, use ABS cement (black) to securely attach the cable to the part. Finally, you're all done and ready to take on whatever road comes next!
