Simple iPad Van Mount
thingiverse
We have mobile "showrooms" that our sales people are going to use. They drive around and show off some of our products. Mounted inside the van is a 43" screen to be used for showing videos, product specs, product application photos, and photos of products now inside the van. We originally had touchscreen "Kiosk" made from Nuc, 4K TV, and a USB touch panel. Customers seemed to be afraid to use it and updating/supporting it was a little difficult. So, we replaced the Kiosk with an iPad. Originally it was attached to the screen with a cable but that was not a good solution. So, I made a wall mount for the iPad. The mount is simple, but VERY sturdy. It is made of PETG. It has multiple screw holes that mount it to the wall. Those screws are anchored using spacers and bolts behind the wall. The inside bottom of the mount has about 1/2 inch of foam padding that prevents damage when the vehicle bounced around. The screws are covered with foam tape, which protects it from scratches caused by the bolts and "pushes" the iPad against the front of the mount to keep it from moving around. Because of the top and bottom thicknesss there is a gap between the wall and the iPad in the middle, this is intentional to provide room for air cooling while charging. We've done several test drives over rough road and it doesn't move at all, very sturdy. The iPad slides in from the top, so the top button can be accessed at all times. The bottom has a circular opening on the front for access to the button. The bottom has a a large square opening on the back where we have the Apple AV adapter that provides HDMI and Lighting charging. The large gap gives ample room to prevent cable damage due to bending. Very simple to print, although it takes a long time due to the size and wall thickness. I printed it in PETG using a 0.8mm nozzle at .3 layer height, and it took approximately 13 hours at 35mm/s. I used support in the bottom area to make sure the circle and letters printed clearly, but I could have printed it upside down and added cutoff support to save time. In the current configuration it used 220g of PETG, approximately 75m. You can reduce the wall thickness if you aren't going to be using this in a mobile environment. You can add cutout letters to the bottom front of the mount, ours are blurred out in the photos.
