Simple Gears Overview & Background This project will teach kids about the interactions between gears and basic mechanics. Objectives Students are expected to learn the importance of gears in everyday life. Audiences This project is suitable for grades one and two. Subjects This project can be used in science class. Skills Learned Children will learn how to use and interact with gears effectively. Lesson/Activity Children start by receiving a peg board and gears. Next, they put the gears in an order where each gear touches the next (either horizontally or vertically). Then, they are told to turn the first gear in the order and observe how one gear makes the next gear move. Duration This project should take around 20 minutes to complete. Preparation No prior knowledge is necessary to complete this project. Rubric & Assessment The final project should have the last gear moving when the first gear is turned.
