Simple Gate Latch
thingiverse
I created a simple gate latch from PETG because my gate kept blowing open in strong gusts. I used 5/32 lag screws, and the hole and slot are 8.5 mm. The latch is 7 mm thick and was printed with 100% infill for added rigidity. This one faces east, directly into the morning sunlight, which it receives approximately half of every day. FYI: After posting this, a heavy storm rolled through my area over the following weekend. Many trees were blown down, and numerous limbs were lost in the wind. At least two neighbors had large tree limbs fall on their property, and at least two gates on my street blew open due to the strong gusts. However, mine did not, and it would have definitely blown open before I added the latch. This solution is simple but very effective. UPDATE 11/11/18: The latch continues to work flawlessly without any issues. Winter temperatures have now arrived in my area, and I will update if this design begins to crack under the extreme temperature fluctuations.
