Simple Filament Spool using Aluminium Tube

Simple Filament Spool using Aluminium Tube

thingiverse

This low-cost aluminum tube filament spool design includes 6mm tube for the arms and 12mm tube for the axle without bearings. OpenSCAD and STL files are provided. The inspiration comes from Thingiverse's project (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:13961). Follow these instructions to assemble your spool: print 3 spoolArms and 1 spoolHub; cut 6mm aluminum tube for arm lengths (e.g., 180mm each); drill out arm holes to 6mm; insert the tubes, then slide on plastic arms. For axle, use a 12mm aluminum tube (preferably leftover piece) suspended above your printer using wire. Load filament by sliding one plastic arm against the hub, looping it over other two arms, and finally sliding last arm to hold securely. Place spool onto axle, and for small reels, twist the arms sideways to keep the filament in place.
