Simple Filament Spool Holder/Spool WInder
thingiverse
I have added two things! A new larger Spool Hub 2. It has a much larger rim than the old one. Works great on my spools with larger holes. No changes to the frame. The Other thing is additional parts to turn it into a Filament Winder! Had a terrible time with a spool having many tangles. This made it easier to unspool the tangled spool, and rewind it. Read about it below the spool holder. -------------------------------------- This is a fairly simple filament spool holder. On my printer I had a pair of computer speakers for uprights. (Messy. Took up too much space. Too much bother.) There had to be a better way. So I came up with this. There are just six types of pieces. I divided the spool holder into twelve pieces. I could run off a piece or two as I had time. Things needed: Two of each piece. Metal rod about 215mm (~8.5") long x about 5mm (1/6")diameter. Tacky Glue / School Glue / White Glue / etc. Two clips of some sort. (I found out that binder clips work better. The small ones worked fine.) The pieces are held togather with a simple peg and socket system. Assembly: A) The three "frame" pieces go togather, forming a triangle. B) The triangle sits on the "Base B" piece. C) That forms the upright as seen in the photo. Assemble both uprights, and place the "Base A" pieces between them. Test fit the pieces togather. Make adjustments as needed. Put glue in the holes, and press the pieces togather. As the glue dries, place the axle on top of the uprights (in the divot...). Make sure both uprights are straight up. Let dry overnight. Notes about the spool hub. The hubs are a little small for my spools. They fit well enough though. These may need adjustment to fit your spools. I have read that it is very difficult to get a round object to fit precisely. So they are a little small (but not by much) To use: A) Take the axle Place a hub on it. B) Place the spool on next. C) Place the other hub on the axle. D) Use the clips to keep the hubs snug against the spool. E) Place the axle on the divots on top of the holder. F) The spool should turn easily. --------------------------------------- The new Spool Winder: You will need: Print the winder parts: WinderHandle - need 1 WInderHub - need 1 WinderLeft - need 2 WinderRight - need 2 SpoolHolderBaseA - need 2 SpoolHolderBaseB - need 2 Hardware needed: Two short course threaded screws - about 2 cm (about 3/4" ) should do. One long machine threaded screw and two nuts - about 35mm (about 1 1/2 inches) should do. Metal rod about 215mm (~8.5") long x about 5mm (1/6")diameter. Optional: Two 608 bearings - the axle just sits in this. Assembly: 1) Put the long handle on the axle. (The end with the hole in the very end.) 2) thread one of the short course screws in the end hole. Turn gently until it stops. The axle should be firmly attached to the long handle piece. 3) Take the long screw, put the handle knob on it. Then the washer. push the thread end through the hole on the other end of the long handle piece. use both nuts, turn them towards each other. 4) Put a 608 bearing on the axle. Then put the winder hub on next. 5) Place the other small course screw in the hole in the collar at the center of the winderhub. Make sure the rim side is facing towards the handle. The winderhub should be firmly attached to the axle. 6) Place the spoolhub2 on next. Make sure it's rim is facing away from the other hub. 7) Use clips to keep the bearings in place. 8) Follow the steps to assemble the frame. To Use: A) Remove the clips, the outer 608 bearing, and spoolhub2. B) Place the spool on the winderhub. Make sure the tab on the edge of the winderhub is in one of the holes around the edge of the spool. C) Replace the spoolhub2 and the 608 bearing. Replace clips. D) As the winder will be just sitting on the winder frame, turn gently. --------------------------------------- Please use as you like. Make any changes you want. Enjoy! SirDonzer
