Simple filament spool holder
cults3d
Here's a filament spool holder that meets all my requirements: I'm looking for a filament spool holder that fits the bill: it needs to hold spools over 2kg, stay compact, and be easy to use with ball bearings - friction test: http://gph.is/2lKmGoh. It should also have adjustable friction. Considering all the spool holders on Thingiverse, I was surprised not to find one that fits my needs perfectly. So, I designed this holder myself. Despite its simplicity, it's a bit wobbly but gets the job done. To make this spool holder, you'll need: * 8mm threaded rod * 2x 8mm nylock nut (or 1x nylock and 1x normal nut) * 4x 8mm ball bearing * A pipe wrench for drilling the rods into the holes - it should be tight enough to prevent using extra nuts If your printer's tolerances are too loose, you may need to adjust the hole size. Edit: A warning: this design has a flaw. After using it for some time, I've encountered problems with the rod thread moving in the notch (which cuts a guidance into the plastic over time), causing the whole rod to move forward and eventually drop. If you still want to use it, cut the main rod in half and reverse one half so that the notches attract to the center point. You'll need some kind of collar to keep those two pieces together. I hope this makes sense - English is my second language.
