My fiancée and I bought a house recently and spent months searching for window coverings before deciding to make our own at a fraction of the cost. She expertly sewed custom curtains by combining an incredible sale with strategic coupon usage at Jo-Ann's fabric stores. Convinced that pre-made curtain rods were grossly overpriced, I swiftly created DIY rod ends and hooks to complement 1-inch dowels purchased from Home Depot. By making our own curtain rods, we saved around $180 compared to buying identical rods at Walmart for approximately $200 each. Painting them added a personal touch while keeping the overall cost under $20.
