Summary Copycatting the ratchet and pawl mechanism from FollowMeOn, I'm slowly building my mechanical skills without resorting to blatant theft, but by creating something myself and borrowing ideas in a polite manner. This homemade device has a satisfying clicking sound - yes, it really goes to 11. The knurled exterior is a nice touch, and since I learned how to create that design in Blender, I've been applying it to everything I make. Eventually, though, I'll get tired of this trend. I needed something to count the number of laps I take around the building - ensuring I complete at least six circuits. Constantly being stopped by curious people while walking and asked questions throws me off track, so I want to keep a consistent record. This counter goes from 0 to 11, which is twelve in total, but I deliberately avoided making thirteen faces on this device. I'm reminded of Spinal Tap's signature style, but my creation isn't nearly as humorous. Before using this ratchet and pawl mechanism, I relied on magnets to keep track of my laps - now, let's see how this new system performs.
