Merry Christmas to everyone! I have to admit, I've never celebrated Christmas before. And, quite frankly, it doesn't seem like my family's traditions are going to change anytime soon either. You see, although my family believes in the magic of Christmas, they just don't make a big deal about it - it's a completely ordinary day for us. We'll sometimes watch some classic holiday movies together, like "A Christmas Carol" or "Home Alone 1 and 2," but that's about as exciting as things get. In fact, most of the time, the TV just plays other people's holiday shows while we're working - not really our cup of tea. Still, I'd be lying if I said we don't love Christmas in some way or another. We enjoy the festive atmosphere and all the sparkly decorations on display at stores for decoration or sale. There's something especially charming about Christmas as portrayed in movies, though. Imagine waking up to a snowy winter wonderland outside your window, with a warm fireplace crackling inside and a beautifully lit Christmas tree gleaming beside piles of shiny gifts. Those kinds of images evoke all sorts of happy memories from my childhood when I would have dreamed about receiving such thoughtful presents - it seemed like every child's dream to get one! As for toys themselves? They were incredibly fun, especially since you always had something new and exciting to play with! However, growing up can change your perspective on things rather quickly. You start to appreciate how good many people truly have it, even when compared to others who face far more difficult challenges in life like poverty or homelessness without a roof over their heads. With this reality check, I feel moved by those individuals, so last year I came up with an idea for Christmas. Why not make some festive spirit possible for people less fortunate than we are? In that case, I set out to create something that even the poor could be able to enjoy during these holidays - albeit in a much more subdued and makeshift manner, of course! A simple little Christmas tree went up at an orphanage - nothing particularly impressive about it. Still happy though. The real reason behind doing all this isn't actually anything grand or special - we simply hope that even if everyone's lives are very different today, still somehow share the joy and love which every holiday brings to remind us that we are alive & well and can make our presence felt no matter how bad things get. It truly feels right during the season. In closing, it should come as little surprise by now but this piece was made for use within Iclone 6.5 running off DirectX11 as per displacement - the Christmas tree just so happens to appear heavier in three-dimensional space.
