Simple and easy filament spool holder
thingiverse
I was looking to expand my space in the 3D-Printer cabinet so I designed a versatile and adjustable Spool holder for Filament that easily takes up minimal space. You can mount this design in virtually any direction you choose to optimize your storage capacity. I have been able to hold two 1kg filament spools, but you can easily adjust it to meet your specific needs. To build this adaptable storage unit, you will need only four simple components: two of the provided arms, one sturdy knob, a custom length of 6mm carbonfibre rod, and four versatile screws with diameters up to 4mm. The design recommends securely fastening the knob at the end of the rod with a strong adhesive to prevent any loose connections. With a maximum diameter for spool size set at 230mm, you can ensure smooth feeding of your filament even when fully loaded. I highly recommend giving this practical design a try as it requires no complex techniques; it's extremely easy to use and understand. If you find yourself satisfied with its functionality like I am, feel free to upload pictures here! Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Note: I made my first print using an ABS spool on a Makerfarm Prusa i3 3D Printer. The design printed smoothly even without the support or rafts, allowing for complete utilization of printing capabilities with the printer set at a high resolution (0.2mm) and optimal infill percentage (30%). It works well with other materials such as PLA; the only requirement is ensuring you choose the right filament size that won't surpass the 230mm diameter mark. Also, you may find that the design fits snugly into your printer's specifications without causing any stress to its framework. Printing this simple Spool holder using ABS, I could get excellent results in no time with a standard set of settings and print duration that kept within reasonable expectations; therefore, it works quite fine with PLA as well. The best part is that due to the low complexity involved in designing such spools or holders, even if you use ABS plastic with some added difficulties with shrinking during cooling down, the holder can handle stress from these prints too since ABS does hold well. Feel free to experiment; a maker never stops discovering, does he? The above points are quite straightforward for users who wish to modify their existing Filament storage for easier usability but if there is one change we must incorporate that is 'changeability'! This gives them full liberty while printing as the entire assembly takes up a smaller footprint once built in such an arrangement on an L shape which makes easy access.
