Simple 1W LED Clip

Simple 1W LED Clip

A simple clip for 1W LEDs. The standard dimensions should be pretty straightforward. These clips usually come pre-soldered on a star-shaped aluminum plate with solder contacts. However, you can also get them without the star patch at a lower cost. Just keep in mind that they're intended to be soldered to such a star patch for cooling purposes, or else they may overheat at full power. I designed this clip to add some light to my printer. These clips are meant to be secured to the frame using cable ties. Four of these with a slight reduction in power should produce enough light to illuminate the entire room without overheating. The clips are designed for a tight fit, but with some pressure, they should slide in and stay securely in place. Custom Section Edit (29.01.2015) I added a few variants. The guide for the cable tie has been rotated 90 degrees. A version with a cutout shaft for adding small aluminum pieces to cool the LED has been included. The aluminum piece should be 2mm thick, 5mm wide, and any length you prefer. It's recommended to apply a small amount of heat-conducting paste between the aluminum and the LED as well. This allows you to run the LED at full power without overheating. A version with a turned cable tie guide and shaft for an aluminum cooler has also been added. I had to increase the thickness for the versions with a shaft for a cooler, otherwise, the trench would have cut through the cable tie guide, but the whole thing remains very compact.
