The 1U CubSat frame design features four rails and two parts: a top piece and a bottom one. To simplify production and reduce costs, these components can be condensed into just two types: one for the rails and another for the top/bottom pieces. Employing Fused Deposition Modeling additive manufacturing allows for composite materials like carbon fiber to be utilized, resulting in lighter weight while maintaining superior material properties compared to metals.
