Simona Amânar was born on October 7, 1979 in Constanţa, Romania. As a former artistic gymnast, she has achieved numerous accolades throughout her illustrious career. A seven-time Olympic medalist and ten-time world medalist, Amânar played a pivotal role in guiding Romania to four consecutive world team titles from 1994 to 1999, as well as the 2000 Olympic team title. Her impressive list of achievements also includes winning the 2000 Olympic All-Around championship. The vault bearing her name, the Amânar, serves as a testament to her remarkable skills. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the sport, Simona Amânar was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2007. Her gymnastics were distinguished by powerful vaulting abilities and unwavering consistency. This sculpture is one of an expanding series of bronze busts situated outside The School of Gymnastics in Deva, Romania. Each bust features a female athlete who represented Romania since the 1978 Olympic Games in Montreal. This collection serves as a tribute to the strength and success of female artistic gymnasts and athletes worldwide. The School of Gymnasts was initially established by the renowned gymnast Nadia Comaneci and is coached by Marta and Bela Karoly. Since 2003, the school has been renamed The Cetate Deva National Sports college, focusing on female athletics. This object is part of "Scan The World".
