I recently encountered a retaining nut that disintegrated on my Simmons Model 081302 Binoculars while attempting to view Neowise (https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/neowise/main/index.html). The binoculars broke apart when they fell, causing one of the eyepieces to roll off the roof and land safely. This convinced me that I needed to repair it immediately since it can withstand such rough handling. The retaining nut is secured by a M3X10MM cap screw with a M3 washer between it and the plastic washer. Notably, the screw hole appears to have been hand-drilled as it's about 3 degrees off-center; however, this doesn't affect the functionality. To prevent the screw from loosening, I'm using lock-tite. I printed this part with 90% infill, making it nearly solid.
