Sillsalteriet på Lilla Aspholmen – 161122
sketchfab
In November 2016, the Bohusläns Museum conducted an archaeological investigation of the remains of a herring salting and smoking facility (Göteborg 367) on Lilla Aspholmen in Gothenburg. The remains can be linked to two individual so-called archipelago works that were built on Lilla Aspholmen around the turn of the 19th century. This type of fish processing industry came into being due to a period of unusually rich availability of herring in Bohuslän, which lasted from the mid-18th century until several years into the next century. The processing involved both salted herring as food and as linseed oil for fuel, lubricant, etc.
