The choir stalls of the Cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo were commissioned by Bishop Don Juan Arias del Villar, marking the beginning of construction work in 1491 and its completion in 1492. The original collection consisted of 80 chairs attributed to Alejo de Vahía as well as other unknown masters. In 1954, they were disassembled and left in the attic of the Cathedral's cloister until they were discovered by American historians Dorothy and Henry Kraus in 1979. Today, 28 chairs from the original set are preserved, and they are once again displayed in the cloister of the Oviedo Cathedral, specifically in the Chapter Hall.
