Silleria de la Catedral de Oviedo (I)
sketchfab
The choir seating of the Cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo was commissioned by Bishop Don Juan Arias del Villar of the diocese, thus beginning construction work in 1491 and concluding it in 1492. The set would originally consist of 80 chairs attributed to Alejo de Vahía, as well as other unknown masters. In 1954, they were disassembled and left abandoned in the attic of the Cloister of the Cathedral until being discovered in 1979 by American historian couple Dorothy and Henry Kraus. Currently, 28 of the set's chairs are preserved. They are now displayed again in the Cloister of the Oviedo Cathedral, specifically in the Chapter Hall.
