Silicone Heater Block Mold for Wanhao D9 Series Printers

Silicone Heater Block Mold for Wanhao D9 Series Printers

thingiverse

This is a working prototype for a mold that makes a silicone sock for the heat block of Wanhao D9 series printers. I haven't completed the project yet, but since someone asked about it in a Wanhao group, I'm publishing it now and will update or let others take over as I finish or encounter obstacles. The idea here is to use a screw to attach the block (a scale model of the heat block) to the outside mold. Next, you'll need to coat the interior space between the block and the mold, as well as the top of the block with something like petroleum jelly or a similar substance. Then, carefully fill the space with high-temperature silicone up to the top of the outside mold. Once the silicone has set, hopefully you can remove it all together if the petroleum jelly does its job properly and prevents permanent adhesion to the plastic.
