Silenus at The State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg
myminifactory
In ancient Greek mythology, Dionysus's trusted companion and mentor was Silenus. As a respected figure in the wine god's retinue, he consistently stood older than the satyrs, often significantly so, earning him the title of Papposilenus at times. The term sileni refers to this mythological character, sometimes viewed as distinct from a satyr due to its equine attributes rather than bovine ones, although the distinction between the two terms is not rigid enough to be clearly defined.
