Silenus at The Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
In ancient Greek mythology, Silenus emerged as a trusted companion and mentor to the revered wine deity Dionysus. He typically stands older than the satyrs that accompany Dionysus on his revelries (thiasos), and in some accounts, he is significantly older, earning him the title of Papposilenus. The term sileni refers to the mythological figure as a distinct type, sometimes believed to be differentiated from a satyr by possessing characteristics associated with horses rather than goats; however, usage of these terms remains inconsistent, making it difficult to establish a clear distinction. This sculpture is part of the "Scan The World" initiative.
