In Greek mythology, Silenus was a trusted companion and mentor to Dionysus, the wine god, serving him for many years. He usually stands out from the satyrs who accompany Dionysus in his retinue (thiasos) as being significantly older. In some cases, he may be referred to as Papposilenus due to his advanced age. Sileni are mythological figures that sometimes appear distinct from satyrs, with characteristics more closely resembling those of a horse than a goat. However, the usage of these two terms is inconsistent and does not provide a clear distinction between them.
