Drone 01 or "Dewey" from Silent Running (1972) is an often overlooked robot design that pre-dates Star Wars and is in my opinion one of the more realistic/unique movie bots. My desire to model this character came from the lack of available physical models. This model prints in one piece, ideally on its back. For ease of printing, I've omitted and cables and the more complex elements of the arm. I took a few creative liberties here and there and simplified the shapes. My model was created by eye, using film stills and recreations I found online. It is not to scale. UPDATE: I just uploaded an improved version that fixes the leg strut. Much closer to the actual movie design. . . . My print was done using the Makerbot Replicator 2x at standard resolution (10% infill, 2 shells, 0.20mm). The model was printed on its back with supports and a raft. The supports left a considerable amount of material on the model.
