Silencer for Ultimaker (Original) Extruder
thingiverse
I experimented extensively with various approaches, yet the noise remained stubbornly persistent. This model is optimized to work in tandem with 4 HDD silencers (which I had stockpiled for nearly a decade) and 8 standard 3mm screws (albeit relatively short). Using "dB Meter" on my iPhone to measure noise at approximately 30-40cm, I obtained before-values of 69 - 71 dB, whereas the after-measurements yielded results between 59 - 61 dB. While it's unclear if the app is calibrated accurately, given that I recently downloaded it specifically for this purpose, I'm satisfied with this design's performance. Notably, noise-volume drops significantly. Only time will tell how well this construction withstands wear and tear. The top silencers may undergo slight softening... yet we'll reserve judgment until it becomes evident if such a possibility ever materializes. Instructions: Printed the model using 100% infill in anticipation of optimal durability.
