A common complaint when photographing with a macro ring flash is that images seem flat. This problem arises from a lack of shadows caused by light coming from a fixed point, much like the effect produced when using a headlamp at night. This tool allows for better positioning of the flash unit, offering three degrees of freedom: camera angle fixation, rod alignment, and flash position. Two grips from MaxGlide have been added to provide extra security. Several mounting options are available, including removal of the tripod holding screw (as shown in the image) or adding an overhand. The camcorder's TV support provides even more possibilities. Required parts include: Threaded rod M8: 2 pieces (each 350mm and 470mm long) Nut M8: 15-20 Big washer M8: 8-10 Screw "photo format" (1/4 inch in diameter, 1/2 inch long): 1 Nut "photo format" (1/4 inch in diameter): 1 Screw M3 cylindrical head, 25mm length: 4 Nut M3: 4 Rubber washer seal: 1 Update on March 10th, 2016: A larger camera support has been added, allowing for a better fixation of the camera. This design is inspired by my Quick release camera mounting plate and requires smaller M3 screws (12 or 16 mm long). Print Settings: Rafts: No specification Supports: Unspecified Notes: The most crucial part of this item is the flash holder. I face difficulty in designing due to printer limitations favoring external dimensions. Most prints are done at 105% scale, but here internal space is a concern. A compromise has been reached by enlarging holes, allowing a workable print at 100%. Comments are appreciated for improvements. For reference, printing the flash holder at 100% causes the designed M8 nut hole to shrink from 13.66mm x 12.6mm to 12.6mm x 11.15mm. Post-Printing Instructions: Flash Holder Support Removal Cut upper links between supports and flash holder; then drag support out of its hold. Thumb Wheel Box Support Removal: Easy process: just break the piece, possibly softening the surface with a cutter first. Washer Tap Gluing Secure rubber washer seal on thumb-wheel box using cyanoacrylate glue and clamp to ensure a better camera fixation. Handle Fixation The hole for M8 threaded rod is deep, providing length adjustment capabilities.
