History shows that the Siemens Schuckert D.IV was a late WWI fighter plane that entered service just months before the war ended. This aircraft was arguably the best fighter plane developed during the conflict, based on its exceptional performance and speed. Unfortunately, it saw limited action due to engine issues that caused seizures after about 10 hours of use, believed to be caused by inferior lubricating oil used at the time. The D.IV's high maneuverability and excellent altitude performance made it a formidable opponent, but its engines' reliability issues proved to be its downfall. The D.IV was partially based on the successful D.II design, boasting superior performance over the D.III model. In March 1918, an order for 280 DIV aircraft was placed, but only 123 were completed by the war's end.
