Sidewinder X1 Top Rail Filament Feeder
thingiverse
I created this filament feeder to overcome potential z-wobble caused by the spool of filament sitting on top of the printer. Initially, it lacked a ball joint but realizing its necessity for positioning the filament directly behind the printer led me to add one. The ball joint allows the spool to be placed to the side and still function well. The two bearings, screws, and nuts are sourced from the spool holder that came with the printer, eliminating the need for additional parts. To set it up, disable the filament sensor by inserting a piece of filament into it to trick it. Since I use OctoPrint and the sensor didn't work for me anyway, I don't bother with it. I experimented with printing it in different ways but found that printing on a raft yielded the most successful results. For best results, print at 35-50% infill or solid if you prefer. It's a small model that doesn't take long to print. In my example, I used Monocure 3D Matte Black PLA.
