Sidewinder X1 Spool Holder -Easy Roller
thingiverse
The stock spool holder that comes with the x1 just doesn't cut it for me. It causes a bit too much drag, pulling the extruder up ever so slightly and resulting in some layer variation. So I created this with two interchangeable options on the main bracket. - Option one: A spool holder assembly using skateboard bearings for super low resistance. It's possible that the resistance could be so low it allows the spool to unwind too easily, but I haven't had any issues yet. - Option two: A simpler basic holder offering a slight bit of resistance that's still a big improvement over the stock one. The 2 bearings needed should have an 8mm inside diameter and 22mm outside. To install this, you can get by with using the existing hardware from the old holder and mounting it on the backside, but it's more stable if you mount it on both sides. I recommend using 5mm tnuts with 10mm long screws. This could also be used on other 20mm wide extrusion based machines.
