Sidewinder X1 Anti-Z Wobble
thingiverse
This is a remix/redesign of the Anti Z Wobble part from Nanodesigner. There are some quirks in the original design I tried to fix: * Holes are now 4mm deep to accommodate larger (and stronger) magnets. The deeper holes also help to align the magnets so they are in-plane. *Adjusted the relative height of the magnet holes slightly. When perfectly printed and assembled, the anti z wobble will work with 3mm bearing balls (and maybe even 2.5mm). The closer the magnets are together, the more torque can be transmitted by the magnets without misalignment! * I designed the part symmetrically, i.e., there is no dedicated upper and lower part, you simply print the same part twice for the upper and lower part. The bottom is flat with a small chamfer against a potential elephant's foot. * I corrected the position of the four holes for the brass nut for the lead screw. They were slightly off which made screwing difficult. * The magnet insert holes are slightly chamfered for easier inserting of the magnets * Since typical Nd magnets have quite some size tolerances, I have added three versions with slightly varying hole diameters. The "tight" version should fit when your printer is calibrated and the magnets are the expected size. *Recommendation*: The lead screws of the Sidewinder have a pitch of 8mm per turn which results in a large torque to be transferred through the Anti Z Wobble adapters. Weaker magnets will not be able to handle this torque and the Anti Z Wobble will fail to properly align! I highly recommend changing to 2mm pitch per turn lead screws and nuts! This will decrease the torque by 75%, and increase your z-axis precision (with and without the anti z wobble). Even weaker magnets can handle this torque. Also, change the feed rate of the z-axis to 1599.112 (from 399.778).
