Side release buckle - optimized
thingiverse
I saw the original [buckle clips](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1074129) quite some time ago and immediately fell in love with their design, so I printed a few of them. However, after using them for a while, I found that there were a couple of things that could be optimized, which is why I decided to make some changes using blender. Below are the issues and improvements I made: * **The clip detaches itself when pulled hard**: * The side locking mechanism has been improved with a "fishing hook" design (the lateral ends of the male part now resemble arrows that lock even better when pulling the parts apart) * Reduce the lateral clearance of the male part inside the female part, thus preventing the male part from making a lateral bias angle with the female part * **The strap slips in the buckle clip when there is a small angle between the strap and the buckle clip**: * "Compress" the back of the male and the female parts to force the strap to make a higher loop angle * **You have to adjust the scale of the parts to fit the male part into the female one**: * Adjust the scalings to fit perfectly * Reduce the female (positive) track height, increase the male (negative) track height With these improvements, the buckle clips are now incredibly strong and meet all my needs. The scale of the buckle clip I provide will fit 2cm width straps. You can scale it up or down, but not too much. I scaled it up to 180% to accommodate a large strap and it still works well with PETG. However, the clip is slightly too strong at this larger scale, which is why I made a second male version with weaker male "legs." It should work only for large scales (say from about 150%), but **I haven't tested it yet - please let me know if you do test it**. You should only print with materials that allow for bending like ABS/PETG, as PLA may not be flexible enough. Enable supports for male and female parts, and don't print too hot (or with the fan turned on) to be able to easily remove them from the female part. **If you print one, please post a make or a comment!
