Side of a Sarcophagus

This side of a sarcophagus comes from a workshop in Rome, crafted around 2nd Century AD. A relief on it tells part of the story of Apollo and Python; according to myth, Apollo was born as a result of an affair between Zeus and Leto, destined for death at the hands of Python, sent by Hera. To avenge this, Apollo killed Python, who guarded the center of the earth (Omphalos) in Delphi.
