Side-mounted Spool Holder for LACK Enclosures

My latest project has been building this LACK enclosure for my Ender 3 v2. Almost all enclosures I could find have the spool mounted on the top, which I did not want. I'm planning on getting a second printer, and I want to plop another enclosure on top of the first when I do, so a top-mounted spoolholder was a no-go. So it was time to fire up the tool made by your favourite non-manual feline.

Bill of Materials

A roughly 0.5m long steel tube with a 20mm diameter (I just cut the remains of an old bunk bed to size)

about 130g of your favourite filament

4 screws (anything that fits the 5mm holes, but don't go too short, it's really soft wood)

small piece of Bowden tube (to prevent the filament from scraping on the plexiglass)

Print settings

I print them flat without supports. Both fit on a 220x220 build plate with a skirt, but did have to do some manual arranging. Printed with PLA with 3 perimeters and 20% infill, but if you want to save on time and filament, you could probably go lower. It's really sturdy and the weakpoint is definetely the screws just getting pulled out of the soft wood.

Installation

Really nothing more than just drilling a few screws into the wood. I would advise using a small drill bit to predrill the holes, since screwing directly into the wood can be slightly awkward with a bigger drill.

Use a 4mm drill to drill the hole for the Bowden tube. NOTE: Make sure your plexiglass can handle being drilled into. If you're not sure, contact the seller, or if you have a spare piece, try drilling into that first. Extruded plexiglass is often not suitable for drilling and will shatter.

License

CC-0. Attribution is appreciated, but not required.
