2019-05-14 - HOLD OFF PRINTING THIS PART The key blank part still doesn't fit snugly into the case lock. I'm modifying the design to split this part into two distinct components, the base and the key blank, which will then be glued together. This approach allows me to print both parts without relying on supports, and it enables the key blank to be printed with its grain aligned in the strongest orientation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The locks on the Aluminum side cases of the R1200GSA (and related models) feature a cover/insert mechanism shaped like a key blank. When inserted into place of the key, this mechanism prevents dirt from the road from entering the locks. Unfortunately, these key blanks often get lost or broken. This project is an attempt to fabricate some replacements that will securely attach to the bike using a 1.85mm paracord leash. This design will definitely need to be printed with the key blank oriented horizontally; I want to avoid the key blank shearing off at a layer line, leaving the part irretrievably stuck in the key slot.
