Pirates! was the first game to feature the name of Sid Meier's alongside its title, in an attempt to attract fans of his previous games. Since 1982 at Microprose, Sid had wanted to change the theme of his games that were basically successful vehicle simulation game titles and create something new. The game was not based on real facts but rather on fantasy books about pirates, as Sid himself said in an interview, all pirate cliches could enter into the story. With RPG-style gameplay, the player has the freedom to navigate through the sea and islands across the Caribbean while performing various tasks such as plundering enemy ships, finding treasure, delivering goods etc. Pirates! was considered a milestone for Sid Meier's, which years later in 1991 created his masterpiece Civilization, a series of games that is still launched and loved by technology wizards like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.
